Knobs: Killing the Germs

by guestpost on May 7, 2010

With so many different germs and viruses going around, you cannot be too careful.  If you ever stop to think about how many germs are on your kitchen or bathroom knobs, you might feel a little woozy.  For most instances, you can simply spray them with a disinfectant and kill off the germs, however, if they are looking pretty grungy and nasty, pull them off and pop them into hot soapy water, adding a tiny touch of bleach to the water as well.  Let them soak for a while and then give them a good scrubbing.  If you need to, an old toothbrush is an excellent way to really get the crevices clean.  Rinse well and then allow them to dry before putting them back on the cabinet.  Prevent the need to repeat this with a weekly spritzing of disinfectant.

The Cabinet Knob Choice

by guestpost on April 6, 2010

One cabinet knob is not the same as any other, so it is important to make the right choice when picking them for your cabinets. Know what any given cabinet knob is going to be used for and how much use it will see every day before picking it. Kitchen cabinets are opened and closed a great deal, for instance. This will need a strong cabinet knob that is securely screwed to the door. Something lighter will eventually come loose. A kitchen cabinet knob will also accumulate food particles and grease, so it should be a material that is easy to clean without ruining its look.

How to Fix Cabinet Knobs

by guestpost on March 15, 2010

Most tiny cabinet knobs come with their own built in screws. Therefore all you have to do is to turn them in their holes by hand. If you are fixing or replacing old knobs, the holes are already there. All you have to do is unscrew the old knobs and screw in the new ones. You don’t even need a screw driver.

The time a cabinet knob falls off is the time to think if replacing it with a more elegant one would do any justice to your bathroom. If your old cabinet knobs are generic ones, they have to go. Buy some decent acrylic or porcelain knobs. These are cheap and are not easily affected by heat and humidity.

There are cabinets of all shapes and sizes and they can all look new and different with a little fresh paint and some new cabinet knobs. If someone wants to get a cabinet for their house but they don’t have a lot of money, one of the best ways to do it is to get one secondhand, paint it and put new cabinet knobs on it. It will look brand new and it will cost a lot less than buying a new cabinet.  It’s amazing what a little paint and a few knobs can do for a secondhand cabinet when you don’t have a lot of money.

Instead of the popular round stainless steel cabinet knobs that have been trendy for the past few years, why not try to revamp your cabinets and find wacky fun knobs? Keep the hinges simple, and change your cabinet knobs to something fresh, colorful, flowery if you like, or just plain modern with different shapes all around. For instance, one cabinet door can have a knob in the shape of a spoon, the other a fork, the next one a knife, etc. You can find almost any kind of knob you can think of if you just search the net and order them. You can also go to the nearest large hardware store to see the selection in person.
